Learning Challenges: Music Therapy can assist children with reading, math, and language skills. Through rhythm, gross and fine motor movement and melody music can motivate and offer children an alternative way to succeed in school.

Emotional Stress: When children are suffering it can be difficult for them to discuss their feelings. Music Therapy offers children a variety of ways to express what is troubling for them and to resolve their problems through musical interaction, dramatic play, musical games, and song writing. Music Therapy offers children the opportunity to build confidence through mastery experiences.

Physical Disabilities: Children with physical disabilities often do not have the same amount of activities and choices that typical children have. Music Therapy offers children opportunities for playing music by adapting songs, instruments, and games to their individual needs and abilities. Music Therapy can include parents, siblings, family, and friends. In this way, the siblings and parents and friends see the child succeeding and can use joyful musical activities to build confidence and have fun.

Special Needs: Music Therapy has been successfully used with children who have special needs. Maxine has worked extensively with families and their children who have special needs. Maxine has experience with children who have been diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Including Asperger’s and Rhett’s Syndrome), Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injuries, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. The Music Therapy sessions are focused on the individual needs of each child as well as alleviating the stresses for family members including siblings and caregivers.
